SYNOPSIS

In a decaying city that was, once a thriving fishing village, seventeen year old Liz cares for her bedridden mother in a crumbling stone storeroom that they call home. Being the only source of income, Liz runs errands and juggles multiple side jobs in the cold and gloomy town to provide for their lives.

In need for more income, Liz sets to take a job on a fishing boat. She uses the last savinds to earn a fishing license, and with struggle, she secures a four day trial on a boat owned by a hardened captain. The conditions on deck are brutal and alongside that, the crew members are unwilling to accept a new member on deck, especially a female. Mills, on the other hand, helps her find her place on the harsh sea. Against all odds, Liz manages to earn her place on deck, all the while caring for her mother and working other part-time jobs. Her bond with Mills grows fonder. The fishing crew faces uncertainty, failed trips to the sea and horrible weather conditions, but they also meet success, full nets, and warm fireplaces, bringing Liz a fragile stability to her life.

Just when it all seems more hopeful. Liz's mother falls unconscious and is rushed to the hospital, requiring urgent surgery. With her mother in a costly hospital bed, Liz gathers all the money left, only to have it stolen by a group of boys, including Tim, a kind and familiar face from past encounters in a local store. Left with nothing, Liz is left to confront the harshness of the situation all over again as everything falls apart.
